Image Modeler Software
Does anyone have experience with Autodesk ImageModeler software? This is my first post as a new associate member. I'm coming from the 3D modeling side and just now getting into VR photography.
The trial version(formerly Realviz ImageModeler) is giving me a lot of grief. It crashes a lot, the snapshot export doesn't match the screen, and certain export functions are grayed out. In theory it should allow me to easily combine 3D models with VR panoramas for Architectural, Civil Product and Interior visualization projects. I had been doing this successfully with 3D Studio Viz but I am looking for a better, faster solution. You can check it out the software here...

I think its PC only at this point, but I believe a MAC version is coming out in March.
Thanks, I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has experience with this. Maybe there's another software solution you are aware of.

I'm using the current Windows and the soon to be released new Mac version of Imagemodeler. It's a great application!
There's any number of reasons for the issues you are having. For example, if you are importing spherical panoramas in as your source images, try importing in cubical images instead.
Post any issues you are having on the Imagemodeler forum:

Re: Image Modeler Software
Submitted by Clay on Wed, 2009-01-28 21:57.I agee Image Modeler has promise. I've been doing similar things with 3D Studio for some time now, but IM would be so much faster and easier. I envision providing an art gallery client with furniture, pedestals, canvases, etc. they can just slide around to plan an exhibition.
I loaded 6 cube faces and it appears more stable, however it doesn't seem possible to calibrate or model anything, probably because corresponding calibration points are not shared between cube faces. (Or I just don't know what I'm doing which is more likely.) One good thing... exporting a snapshot now represents what I see on the screen.
I will take your advice about the IM forum and post more detailed questions there. I personally don't mind working with Beta or prerelease software, I worked for an Autodesk reseller here in Canada for years. Once I'm convinced its bullet proof and will do what I want, I will recommend it to my gallery. It should be a great solution for them.
Thanks a lot, Andrew....

Submitted by s_3d on Wed, 2010-01-20 22:14.Hi Andrew,
I have just started using imagemodeler and have read the help files but cant work out how to inset the face of a polygon like i can in 3dsmax. i have seen this done in some of the demo videos so know it is possible. I did post in the imagemodeler forum but this seems to be pretty quiet so thought i would post here to see if i could get some help. There is hardly any info on the net about how to use the software (i have all the autodesk stuff) so any links or sites you could recommend would be great. Thanks

You can see an example of how to do this on page 136 of the User Guide.
When you say "I have all the Autodesk stuff" can you be more specific?

Submitted by Clay on Sun, 2009-12-20 23:13.Image Modeler is photogrammetry software designed for building 3D mesh models from Photographs. 3D Studio Max, also from Autodesk is 3D modeling, rendering and animation software.
Both of these are fundamentally for visualization and are not meant for creating CNC machinable geometry. For that you would need something like Autodesk Inventor or Solidworks.
Hope this helps, it really depends on what you want to do with your project.

Image Modeler Software - Too Bad
Submitted by Clay on Sun, 2009-12-27 14:10.Too Bad. It was my concept to sell VR photography and 3D modeling services to an art gallery customer of mine. Once set up they could easily maintain it themselves.
However at $3500 bundled with 3ds Max, it would be out of the question for them. If anyone knows of an equivalent product that would allow 3D modeling on top of a spherical panorama, I would be interested in knowing about it.
