Anyone seen the new VRstation camera?
Submitted by TheManBearPig on Fri, 2009-09-25 17:02.
This new camera was on show in Washington and appears to do everything at the touch of a single button,
including the unwrapping and tone mapping of images.
Its meant to be the equivalent of a 5 or 8 Mpix camera using a single shot lens.
This would mean that tours would take minutes to create instead of spending time post processing back on the computer.
It certainly looks cool. The website is http://www.VRstation.net
Not sure when its for sale, does anyone know?

I'm underwhelmed.
I suspect Panoguy and TheManBearPig are the same guy faking a conversation instead of admitting they work for VRstation.
He must think we're really stupid

Although I am sure you are intelligent, I can say undoubtably that I am not PanoGuy and I have never had pleasure of speaking with him.
If you are reading this PanoGuy, its nice to meet you.
I hope this clears up the matter.

Interesting though that both accounts were created from the same ip address, in Edinburgh, uk. And VRStation (the company) seems to be based in... well, you get the idea...
So now that we've established that either (or both) of you probably know more about the VRStation, please tell us more! Will it actually do video, or still images only? The specsheet isn't quite clear about that. What's the resolution for video? And when will it go in production?
Does the glass shell add any extra glare?

Submitted by TheManBearPig on Mon, 2009-09-28 11:42.Hi, firstly, I really don't know who PanoGuy is, if your reading this please drop us another comment especially if you are based in Edinburgh or work for VRstation.
I am based in Edinburgh but only read the spec sheet too. I called them, they say its coming November and that it can do video via firmware update. They are apparently putting up a new website shortly with examples etc.
Still no prices yet though, comes with online tour management system, unlimited tours, however you can still use the images on other systems.
Forgot to ask about the glare!

If you have more information to share about the camera, I am all ears, and I am sure there will be many interested among our membership and the among users of the site; new cameras/optics are always interesting. Personally I would be interested/impressed if it did HD-class video. I take it the device is using an off-the-shelve sensor?
Re: Anyone seen the new VRstation camera?
Submitted by TheManBearPig on Mon, 2009-09-28 13:17.Hi Aldo,
Let me say for the last time, i have no idea of who Panoguy is and i have no connection.
Let me also confirm that yes I simply wanted to let you guys know that our new VRstation is coming, and I hope it will be well received.
Our company has been working on it for 3 years now, and we have 8 years first hand experience in the virtual tours industry.
We wanted to build a camera that anyone could use, and with no need to learn about photography or photoshop, this camera is the result.
I could say more but don't want to come across as selling on your site, and upset members. My intention was to simply to look our for it.
However, I am happy to answer questions.
All the best.

At this point you'd be smarter to say you're Panoguy, even if you aren't.
Continuing to claim partial innocence at this point just undermines your credibility more each time.
As Aldo discovered both names were created from the "same ip address, in Edinburgh,uk"
Maybe Panoguy was sitting right next to you at the WiFi Cafe?????????????

The camera will be on sale at the San Dieago NAR Expo in November.
The spec sheet on the website explains much of the hardware capabilities.
The main feature is the camera will take 3 images of a single location, and tone map these to produce a 4th image, cleans it up using algorithms based on photoshop processes we apply to our current 360 photography. The image is then unwrapped ready for upload to any website. HDR can be turned off if you wish to still wish to process your own images.
Our online management system is also very comprehensive and we feel will be the most advanced yet for realtors and commercial photographers alike, allowing Unlimited hosting of tours and video. Running over 5 dedicated web servers, with an initial 45 Terabytes iSCSI SAN system for fast hosting of your content.
We have made the camera as low power as possible, and put a battery in there that allows a full 6 to 8 hours use on a full charge.
The camera has mains power and will also charge the internal removable battery. Support SD cards, connect to camera over Ethernet IP to remote control the camera and preview what its seeing. Wfi option also available, connect and remote control from any internet capable mobile device.
Create guest account to allow other users to remote into your camera and take 360 degree image remotely.
Video conference in 360 degree over Skype on usb2 via Firmware update.
Surveillance version of camera has optional mobile sim card socket to stream video over mobile networks to mobile phone if motion detected. Can call camera from mobile phone and remote control / preview & listen to activity. Camera is equipped with Hi Power Infa Red LEDs for night vision.
On sale in US, UK, NL, FR, GR from November.
