It goes against anybody's thinking of .COM when you have a conversion with another person.
Consider the $27 million dollar disaster with O.com -- when they rebranded themselves as O.co. It was a complete disaster. They wasted $27 million dollars trying to get the public to go to the new rebranded site O.co and they failed miserably. The public could not understand they dropped off letter 'm' -- the public was confused and sales dropped instantly.
Read the story on Advertising Age: http://adage.com/article/news/o-overstock-backs-o-change/230983/
Let me show you how the conversation falls apart when you advertise any domain as Name.co instead of 'Name.com'
BOB: "I just bought this really great camera on-line."
TERRI: "Where did you buy it?"
BOB: "I got in on O.co"
TERRI: "You mean O.com, right?"
BOB: "No, O.co -- there's no more letter 'm' in the domain anymore. They changed it."
TERRI: "Boy, that's confusing. It's like they deliberately left OFF the 'm' -- I just don't understand that."
This is the reason why O.com spent $27 million dollars and failed.
No offense to you, personally -- but the .co domain names were not a very good idea to begin with. It's hard for people to grasp them. I'd suggest selling them @ GreatDomains.com (SEDO.com).
Because anyone in 360 tour photography advertising tour360.co is going to have the same hard time that Overstock (o.com) had in marketing their products.
Tony Robbins said it best: The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results. Success and failure leave clues. Pay attention to what works and what doesn't.
Branding yourself as .CO doesn't work. Period. Big companies made big mistakes in trying and they all flip-flopped back to .COM last year. Read the Ad Age article.
I'm pretty sure nobody on IVRPA has $27 million dollars to dump into trying to brand themselves as a .CO.
