Canyon Road at Paseo de Peralta

Canyon Road is probably the most gallery laden street in Santa Fe, New Mexico. From what I've been told there are more galleries per square mile in Santa Fe than any other place in the world. See more.

Thanks

Thank you; at this point I haven't conducted my own analysis, but am taking the word of a gallery owner. :-) Maybe at some point I'll be able to do a bit more exploring.

I wonder about the evolution of places that start out with lots of artists living near by, but find themselves displaced due to the cost of living. To an extent it seems the victim of its own success, so I'm wondering what (typically) comes next. I'm guessing there are similar places that have been through this in NY and CA, but I consider myself a relative outsider to the "art world" so have no first, second, or third hand knowledge. Any insight appreciated.

Please excuse my ignorance, but did Sedona start out as an artist community or was it created as place for galleries?
