VR Conference Berkeley
Submitted by Robert C. Fisher on Mon, 2006-10-30 18:53.WooHoo, Great there is a conference I can make, unless some big job pops up. I haven't missed a VR conference since they started 5 years ago. It's too bad the European Conf Dennis was organizing cancelled, but it seems Mike Quan has one going now in a month to replace that one but on a smaller scale. I think it's important for us to get together every year since we are such a small band of photographers, but VR and Pano photography seems to be growing all the time. Earlier this year it seemed that VR was on it's way out but as of late there is a lot of development of tools and more guys shooting all the time so there is hope even though the larger companies seem to have abandoned this specialty. Now if we can convince companies to use our work and images continuosly so there is a market for our images that will be a step in the right direction.
Cheers

Oakland (OAK), San Francisco (SFO), San Jose (?) would be my order of preference. With enough notice, I could ferry you from point A to B. :) Oakland's closest to Berkeley, SF second and San Jose 3rd.
Public transportation from Oakland is doable, if a bit disjointed (walk, bus, light rail); You can catch light rail directly to Berkeley from SFO, and San Jose would be rent-a-car material.
In Berkeley (new and cool to Berkeley) is City Car Share, with reasonable rental for in-town use.

conference dates
Submitted by Aldo Hoeben on Fri, 2007-01-05 11:10.Since we're currently considering moving the conference a couple of days forward (because of Memorial Day), I have removed the dates from the post. Stand by for an update.

If it's moving into June I need to know ASAP as that's my busiest part of the year for shooting...
Re: conference dates
Submitted by Aldo Hoeben on Tue, 2007-01-16 20:35.Speaking before my turn (sorry Don et all), I'll say that it is currently highly likely that the conference will be moved into June. The reason for the change in dates is the availability of cheap rooms at the university grounds; we want to make this conference affordable.

Submitted by GDonaldBain on Tue, 2007-01-16 20:46.I am waiting for official confirmation of housing availability dates.
June 15 looks very likely, but I don't want to lead anyone on with a premature announcement. Another day or two and we will know.

Keep an eye on my IVRPA Blog, or otherwise be in touch -- maybe there'll be a Bay Area get-together then. At the least, a coffee, tea or beer. :-)
