Submitted by Bill Bailey on Fri, 2009-07-10 15:47.Bill Bailey and Rob van Gils of Nodal Ninja will be attending. Let's all try not to pop anyone else's balloon :-)
We'll bring along a couple extra pano heads in the off chance someone would like to buy one - 10% discount to those buying "during" the event. Reserve a head sooner than later bill[at]nodalninja[dot]com - we can only bring a limited number of units.
And we'll also have a 4WD SUV with room for a couple extra that might like to venture off the beaten path - not asking to pitch in petrol but any assist is welcomed.
Looking forward to meeting everyone.
cya there

Submitted by Doug Aurand on Sun, 2009-07-12 17:27.You can get a preview of Albuquerque on my site www.VirtualAlbuquerque.com
There is some really old video clips of the Balloon Fiesta, a video Ride Up the Tram with 360° images at the bottom and the top, also an old 360° virtual tour of High Finance Restaurant (it should be updated in about a month)
Don't forget to visit Old Town Plaza (really and virtually)
My favorite restaurant is the Range Cafe in Bernalillo, about 15 miles north of Albuquerque, but they also have 2 restaurants in Albuquerque. The Blue Corn Chicken Enchiladas with Red Chili are my personal addiction ;)
Also the Nob Hill District on Old Route 66/Central Avenue is a great place to walk around and eat. Scalo Northern Italian Grill (good Italian food) is in the 1930s shopping center that give the area its name. There's a tour on www.VirtualAlbuquerque.com too

Submitted by Tom Lassiter on Thu, 2009-07-16 20:12.Just curious who else (besides Patrick and me) has committed to go. There's apparently no shuttle servcie and having a car is the best plan. I'm interested in possibly sharing a car rental if anyone's interested.

Submitted by Willy Kaemena on Fri, 2009-07-17 11:08.Hi Tom
I am going too !!
There is a shuttle service from Downtown ABQ for the fiesta. BTW I am impressed by the existence of a quite decent public transport in ABQ for a price of almost nothing. I will post some links here later. The parking fee at the Fiesta is quite hefty. Car sharing would be an option. To make the journey to ABQ more enjoyable for me, I will fly only to ORD (Chicago) From there I am taking the South West Chief Amtrak Superliner first class sleeper to ABQ on Oct 5th at 3:15 PM. As the sleeper fee is always for two persons ( full a la carte food included) I would have still one place available in the sleeper ! The cost for the second person is only the plain Amtrak fare for a coach ticket of 119 US$ ( Tax and fees included and no safety lines, no shoe removal and yes you can carry toothpaste in your hand luggage,,..) Who doesn't know how nice a long distance train ride can be, have a look here on my website http://homepage.mac.com/wkaemena/FSPanos/Menu418.html
Re: ABQ Local Transport
Submitted by Willy Kaemena on Fri, 2009-07-17 21:04.here the website of the public transport in ABQ
http://www.cabq.gov/transit/
here all lines http://www.cabq.gov/transit/destinations and the efforts of ABQ for a better and cleaner transport http://www.cabq.gov/albuquerquegreen/green-goals/transportation-options/...
here is the trip Planner http://www.cabq.gov/transit/trip-planning or the direct link to the trip planner is http://198.182.159.84/
The central hub of all bus and train lines is not far from our Hotel and is called "Alvarado Transportation Center" and there is also a frequent service from the ABQ Airport to this downtown hub.
An interactive map with all bus stops you can get here: http://vistagrande.cabq.gov/website/newgen/viewer.htm?ActiveLayer=22&Lay...
the name of the nearest bus stop to the Hotel is : LOMAS BLVD NE @ MEDICAL ARTS AV NE, ALBUQUERQUE
the Transportation Hub full name is ALVARADO TRANSPORTATION CENTER, 1ST ST SW, ALBUQUERQUE, 87102 You can enter even parts of the name in the search mask. The bus ride will take 8 min from the downtown transportation hub to the Plaza Inn ABQ Hotel
Please note you may now purchase a 1 Day Pass while
boarding the bus for $2.00. The 1 Day Pass is valid
for unlimited rides, for any route, except for special
events, and is valid until midnight of the day of
purchase.
A convenient way to get the the fiesta area is to use the Rail Runner Express Trains from downtown ABQ ( Alvarado Transportation Center) to Los Ranchos/ Journal Center Station where a shuttle to the Fiesta Area is provided and included in the transport fee. http://www.balloonfiesta.com/content/fiesta-express-park-ride. The fast train trip takes only 12 min. http://www.nmrailrunner.com/
And last but not least... do you want to go to the Grand Canyon after the Balloon Fiesta? Did you know that you can do that very conveniently without car?
Take the Southwest Chief Superliner Amtrak train at 4:45 pm from ABQ to Williams Junction ( arrival 9:33pm) stay overnight at the beautiful hotel directly at Williams Station http://www.thetrain.com/grand-canyon-railway-hotel-williams-az-5686.html In the morning take one of the historic trains http://www.thetrain.com/ directly to the Grand Canyon visitor park. Late afternoon take the train back to Williams http://vimeo.com/3017493?hd=1 , have a nice Dinner in Williams at Route 66 and board the Southwest Chief at Williams Junction at 9:33pm in order to reach Los Angeles next morning. http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Amtrak/HomePage
Which reminds me to tell you that open yaw flights are not more expensive than point to point flights ! you could book easily for example Frankfurt-ABQ / LAX-Frankfurt
Re: ABQ PHOTO FIESTA 2009 - Who's Going?
Submitted by Doug Aurand on Fri, 2009-07-17 15:08.There's a Park-n-Ride from 3 or 4 locations around the city.
Its the best way to get to Balloon Park even if you have a car.
It runs on the weekends and some of the weekdays. Also in the evening for the Balloon Glows and Special Shape Glowdeos
Your hotel may provide a ride to the Park-n-Ride locations which are usually the major shopping centers and a big church

See you there guys. I used to spend a good amount of time in Santa Fe when I lived in Seattle before I moved to the desert of Eastern California. It was tempting to stay in Santa Fe at the Plaza Reale, which was my usual abode in NM, but much is to be gained by hanging out at the gathering so I reserved a room at the Fiesta hotel.
See you there!

Submitted by Scotsman on Tue, 2009-09-08 21:55.I am really considering joining everyone on this trip but would like to know a little more about the learning opportunities.
My VR photography is quite sound and I have no real hang-ups about that. Perhaps not as technologically advanced as many I see but of a high enough quality for commercial use. Problem is...I just can't sell it. Can't make people see the point in it and real estate people think it's 'so nineties' and that people just don;t want to be bothered with it and besides - videos on U-Tube are the way to go.
Sorry to be negative and all that - but I've put a lot of money, time and effort into getting into a decent product - only to be turned away (in favor of stills) most of the time.
Would anybody be talking about ways to martket this and uses for it that perhaps I haven't thought of so far?
Thanks,
Hamish Tear.
