Vienna and the surrounding countryside has a wealth of attractions, so we decided to offer an excursion into its surroundings, giving you a unique experience of Austria’s rich cultural, visual and culinary heritage.
We will start at 9am at the Motel One Prater, where a chartered bus will pick us up and take us to Europe’s oldest monastery, Melk Abbey, with its world-famous Melk Library and Baroque gardens.
We arrive at 10:30am, so you will have time to visit the monastery or go for a stroll through the old town of Melk. At 1:50pm we depart by boat on the Danube river – so you may even find time to see both the town and the monastery.
Our trip down the scenic Danube will take us past medieval castles, picturesque towns and old wineries through the wonderful Wachau region, included in the UNESCO world heritage list for its exceptional beauty. At 3:10pm we alight in the town of Dürnstein with its blue tower. This town’s castles, churches, ruins and monastery should offer more than enough subjects to explore and capture in panoramas.
We will visit the highly-respected Loibnerhof winery at 5:30pm for a reception and three-course dinner, either inside or in its wonderful orchard.
At approximately 7:30pn the bus will take us back to Vienna.
The excursion price includes fares for both the bus and boat trips, a lunch bag and water, entrance fee at the monastery and also the reception and three-course dinner at the winery.
