Flora and Botanical Gardens in Cologne
The touch of fin de siecle nostalgia: Flora and Botanical Gardens with magnificent orchid cultures, palm house and dendrological treasures. The incredible variety of plants, their significance for horticulture, technology, medicine, nutrition and textile industry, are the themes of the gardens in the north of Cologne, generally referred to as the "Flora".
The gardens were landscaped in 1863 according to designs by Peter Josef Lenné and Joseph Maria Olbrich. The botanical garden was added in 1914. The site, which was destroyed during the Second World War, was restored completely and now has a stock of plants including approx. 12,000 species. More than one million visitors annually come to experience the Flora.
Entry is free, but of course bicycle ride is not allowed ;)
