Impressed with Drupal 5, TODO list

The IVRPA website is running Drupal 4.7. The site has many dependencies on contributed and custom modules, so upgrading to Drupal 5 would not be an light undertaking. Especially with the work I have been putting into the conference site, I would not fathom upgrading at this point.

However, last weekend I had the 'opportunity' to upgrade one of my other Drupal-powered sites, hoeben.net. Sure, the 'bling' added to the default theme is nice, but what I am really impressed with is the architectural improvements; The filesystem layout is much more geared towards multisite setups like we have on the IVRPA site.

So, upgrading to Drupal 5.x is definitely on my TODO list for the site. Unfortunately, that list is rather long. These are the current priorities:

  • conference.ivrpa.org
  • moving to another host
  • reworking the sponsors page
  • reworking personal profiles and adding personal galleries
  • incorporating (the) mailinglist(s) in the site
  • migrating from flexinode to cck
  • migrating from prototype to jquery
  • migrating from drupal 4.7 to 5.x

As you see, it's not a long list... :-/

Update: Also on the list:

  • support for object movies in the galleries
(object movies are currently stretched, and generally don't look good)

  • posting (small) images in forum posts, blogs and comments.

Is using non-gallery photos in blog & forum posts that are hosted on IVRPA.org on the list.

It would make showing what we're talking about so much easier.

The site is about Imaging & Photography after all.

That's not a criticism, you've done a great job.

Updated the todo list...

If you - or anyone else - have any more wishes, you can post them here or on the feedback forum.

Re: Impressed with Drupal 5, TODO list

Just curious, to know why you are transferring to another host?

Also any chance of putting visit numbers on pages, so we can see which posts have been viewed or not.

Will be very interesting to see how many people have looked at my gallery pages, blog or forum threads.

But in general i think you have the site pretty much spot on.

hosting issues

Here's a recap of our hosting issues. We just had another accurance of that 'error 28' this weekend. But there's other stuff as well; we can not host our mailinglist here for example, and performance of the site has been dropping down to a crawl in the (CET) evening (when the whole US is awake, I guess).
