My FIRST virtual tour...what do you think ?

Hi everybody...

this is my first virtual tour

http://www.glasstemptation.com

I wonder what do you think about that ?
The website and the logo etc are just temporary...

I did it with nikon coolpix 8700 - agnos rotator - fc-e9 - PtGui

Any idea how to improve it ?

Doug I really would like to know you opinion :)

Roberto.

Re: My FIRST virtual tour...what do you think ?

Roberto
I'm not getting the interactive image to play, the ptviewer loads and says its "ptviewer started" on the Status Bar of my browser, but all I see is the grey circle "splash" logo.

I'm on a Dial-Up connection at home, is it a big file?

The image on the first page, I assume its a cropped Equirectangular Projection, looks like the stitching is really good.

Is it really that yellow/orange in that room?

Re: My FIRST virtual tour...what do you think ?

Roberto,

Couple of things came to mind while looking at your first panorama. First was the colour, was the room really that orange? With all that internal lighting has the camera made a wrong decision on white balance? I hope you didn't mind but I took your source file and ran it thought Photoshop applying a "Cooling Filter (82)" to it. Was the colours of the room more like this http://www.bilsland.co.uk/FirstPano/5-logo.jpg ? To me the colours are now a lot easier on the eye, but maybe too much? The second thing that came to mind was the file size, almost 2MB. A bit of compression doesn't seem to harm the quality too much. My version of your panorama comes in at less than 500KB. Some well publicised compression guides can be found over at the world wide panorama site (http://geoimages.berkeley.edu/wwp/practical/Sizes.html).

Hope this helps,

Bob Bilsland.

Re: My FIRST virtual tour...what do you think ?

Hi Roberto,

I recommend setting the camera white balance with an expodisc, it saves huge time in post processing (www.expodisc.com) If you dont want to shell out anymore money just yet I would set the Camera white balance to anything other than auto.

Stitching seems good...what was your Aperture set at ? it should stay constant thru each shot....only change shutter speed if need be.

Re: My FIRST virtual tour...what do you think ?

The other way to set White Balance is with a white piece of paper.

On the 8700 theres a way to preset the white balance by holding the piece of paper, or the ExpoDisc, in from of the lens and having it sample what "white" looks like in that light.

The shift to yellow using the Auto White balance is worse in low light on my Coolpix 5400 too

Re: My FIRST virtual tour...what do you think ?

Roberto,

I agree with Doug, you need to join this organization, I don't buy the money issue.

If you do join I'll give you my full comments as this work, while yes it's your first, is really not very good - So many things should/could be much better. Remember; you're asking for comments. If you really wants ones that will help you improve then get a bit of a thick skin and try to start developing a critical eye - you've got a lot of learning still to do. This pano is certainly not worth 150 sterling, not even close.

I'm a bit amazed that no one's pointed out yet that's the level is quite off. But, from my experience here and on forums in general if you say anything other than "nice work...but" you get cast as a negative person. It's happen to me here as a few forum members just don't want to hear critical comments.

Keep shooting, testing and using the internet to build your skills. And by the way, I like the start of your web site.

Best of Luck in your new endeavor.

Robert

Re: My FIRST virtual tour...what do you think ?

Hi guys thanks for your comment,
as I wrote in another post unfortunately I cannot join ivrpa at the moment because of economic reason (I basicly spent all my money to buy the equipment, London is hard life!) but I will do as soon as I can.

Robert thanks for your advise... the shot as you said is s..t (of course is the first one) and I do not have experience as a photographer... the white balance is still a bit of a mistery for me if I have to be honest..

The quality of the image is not very good but think that a part the fact that I do not have experience I'm using a coolpix 8700 with an convertor(fc-e9).Anyway Robert feel free to give me your opinion expecially if negative... this is what I'm looking for.

Thanks a lot for the suppor of everybody and sorry again not be able to join the community at the moment..

Re: My FIRST virtual tour...what do you think ?

Roberto
I have to wonder about the wisdom of getting into virtual imaging if you're that low on money.

Its not a business that's going to generate much income quickly.

The only reason it worked for me was becasue I was providing other income generating services to Realtors that provided the cash to move slowly into providing Virtual Tours.

Three cameras, 2 computers, several expensive pieces of software, hundreds of hours of experimenting, etc., etc. later, Virtual Tours are making me a little money and its growing.

I get the idea you're moving way too fast into this if you can't afford US$50 to join IVRPA, since you're completely dependent on us for guidence and help.

Hi Roberto,

Your first panorama is far better than my first one.

Re: My FIRST virtual tour...what do you think ?

Hi Robert

First observation, i know your living in London, but you need to change your prices to the UK way of writing.

you have 150£
when it should be £150

You and i both know how many people in London feel about foreign people, (i just got back last night from working there for the past week) and it is probably the most racist place on the planet. All service people IE, bin men, bar staff, waiters are black or eastern European. So putting info on your site which shows your not English will go against you straight away.

You should try and live in the North of England, the rat race is much lower and people will employ you for your skills, not who you are or what you look like.

Also is there anyway, you can sort the top of the pano, so you cant see the join marks by taking a photograph facing up?

All the best
Ian

Re: My FIRST virtual tour...what do you think ?

Hi Ian,
and thanks for your support,
today after 5.000.000 photos, after reading 2 milions books, studing the movement of the sun in sky, I'm ready to go out and speak with the people about my business.
Italian style : Italian suit, Italian tie, Italian perfum. I'm going to charm them all. My website is S..., my business card are S..., my photos are S..., my english is S... but I feel very very well, very confident.

Thanks for the advices I will let you know as soon as I have the first customer... The idea of the webdesigners is very good, I will keep it in mind.

Many thanks,

Roberto.

Re: My FIRST virtual tour...what do you think ?

Hi Ian,
and regarding the photo at the zenith, I prefer at the moment not to do it because My rotator does not permit do flip the camera in vertical position so i Prefer not to remove the camera each time.
I have not idea why the zenith is not perfect.... I tried with smartblen, enblend but the best one so far seems to be the one of ptgui....

Thanks,

Roberto
