Lightwindow with Flash Panorama

I am trying to use Lightwindow to display a flash panorama (much llike is used on the IVRPA site.) I have the page for the pano created as normal and call it in the Lightwindow box on my new page. It all works fine if I use a Flash Panorama Player page from some other server, but not if the FPP page is on the same server as my page with the Lightwindow page.

If I try to display a FPP from the same domain, it gives me the old

"This content requires Adobe Flash Player 9. Please, visit adobe.com to install it"

message. If I put the FPP page on another domain I have, it works just fine, so what gives? I am sure it is something simple, but I am not seeing it.

Re: Lightwindow with Flash Panorama

Are you sure the server giving you the problem recognizes that file type ?.....I had to call GoDaddy and have file types registered in the past then all was fine.

Re: Lightwindow with Flash Panorama

Yes, if I put the page on the server in question, it works just fine. Only when I open it through a lightwindow box on another page hosted on that same domain do I get the problem.

I should note that I tried putting both of them on the OTHER server simultaneously with the same result. I get the no flash error message when they are both on the same server with either server/domain.

Hello Dennis

YOu've managed to get Lightwindow lightbox to work with Flash VR ? You've got some link ? did you modify anything ?
I'd love to use this feature on an interactive floor-plan, poping stills and VRs.

Thanks for sharing your insight

All the best

Re: Lightwindow with Flash Panorama

Just a note: I had someone email me saying that it made a difference whether they put www. in the URL or not. Weird. I haven't tried this lately, so it isn't first-hand experience.

Re: Lightwindow with Flash Panorama

Are you talking about the LightWindow from "stickmanlabs"?

They have an example at their site which uses FlashVR -- It's mine!

I had a back-and-forth support email session with the creator, and next thing I knew he'd linked to my VR. :-P

It's the "User Example" link, and works just fine! But, it is calling in my FPP presentation across domains, so... Hmm.

Yep, that is the one that inspired me to use LightWindow! But have you gotten it to work with both on the same domain?

Re: Lightwindow with Flash Panorama

Hey John:

If you're able to get in to the Lightwindow forums, can you ask Kevin (mr. stickman) to fix it so that I can access them? My IP address has been blocked for months, and he's been "getting around to it". Frustrating.

In any case, a working example:

http://www.cheathamlane.net/Untitled.html

Follow the text link "Flash (full URL, but minus the 'www')". things should show up -- I haven't tested anywhere but Safari/Mac. Let me know how it works for you.

I tried to use a relative URL ("clients/SFCM/flash/index.html"), one relative from root ("/clients/SFCM/flash/index.html"), and one fully defined ("http://www.cheathamlane.net/clients/SFCM/flash/index.html"). What ended up working was using a fully defined URL, but minus the "www" ("http://cheathamlane.net/clients/SFCM/flash/index.html").

I think the problem lies with LightWindow & how it's handling embedding the page -- though I don't know, really, and don't have any avenues to find out for sure (see above about forum access). Now see what happens when you go to the same page as above, but at:

http://cheathamlane.net/Untitled.html

...which probably means that if I put the "www." back in the URL it _would_ work. :sigh:

If you want to test on your end, but with FPP's policyFile or allowdomain settings, let me know how it goes... I'm not convinced it's an FPP issue though. I also haven't tested with non-FPP Flash content.

Re: Lightwindow with Flash Panorama

By George, I think you have figured out the work-around! HA! You have to have an ODD multiple of the letter W in the URL.

That really is weird. Yep, I saw the same thing you did; I only tried in Safari though. It will be interesting to see what happens on other browsers/platforms.

Re: Lightwindow with Flash Panorama

Hi Patrick and John,

Glad the www observation I made helped.
I'm working on a project right now that will be loading URLs rather than just the .swf files because I want the controls to be part of the images. I think it's strange that Lightwindow will load the flash file but not its associated .xml file. The only problem I have with linking to the URL is that the pages take longer to load. If only I could figure out why it won't load the .xml file. There has got to be someway to write the code to include the .xml file. I'd ask the Lightwindow guy but from what I can tell you have to pay him in order to get a question answered, and that isn't even a guarantee.

I'll figure it out...

Re: Lightwindow with Flash Panorama

I think I have it working OK now. As long as www is not added to my web pages it works.

A new approach: Mediabox

I basically stumbled across a cousin of Lightbox, Lightwindow, Slimbox, etc, called Mediabox:

http://iaian7.com/webcode/Mediabox

Since I REALLY am not terribly interested in doing web design, I use Rapidweaver to make pages. It was in their forum that I saw a link to integrating Mediabox:

http://www.crmtechnik.com/RWTests/screencasts/index.html

I am sure if you are a web monkey it wouldn't be difficult at all to set it up with whatever web design you use; with RW, it was literally adding a few lines of javascript to the header and dragging a folder of pre-collected files into my theme. It worked first time with no mucking about. It works with flash, quicktime and web content (the last via iframe). I did it using the web content method, since I had all the stuff already in the webpage to connect it up with the xml, etc. If you were just using the raw swf, you could do it as flash directly. Another reason I used a web page was that I am using some simple php to make life easier (which movie loads, initial views, etc.) Mediabox was much easier to integrate into RW than lightwindow.

Might want to give it a try 8-)

Re: Lightwindow with Flash Panorama

Hello people,
I had the same problem showing my tours in a lightwindow popup, so I found this post in google. The answer to this problem is to put the code lightwindow_type=external into the link that opens the lightwindow box. If you do this, you can open content from your own domain without having to create a subdomain or adding/removing 'www' to the link.
I will try to put a sample link code that goes in front of the actual link here, don't know if I can:

{a params="lightwindow_type=external,lightwindow_width=800,lightwindow_height=600" class="lightwindow page-options" href="http://www.yoursite.com.com/map/index.htm"}{img border="0" alt="" src="../map/hotel/thumb.jpg" /}{/a}

Replace the }{ with ><

Re: Lightwindow with Flash Panorama

Yep, this does work. I saw the same fix and tried it. My new site will be up in a day or two and all my panoramas are viewed with lightwindow. It really is a great script!

Thanks for the post, Ronald.

Re: Lightwindow with Flash Panorama

i've got lightwindow working fine with flash panorama player & wordpress using the following code -

click on the pano thumbnails on this page for examples - http://www.nylocations.com/panoramic-photography/

cant post the code properly here, so replace the leading "[" in the a tags with a leading angle bracket

this will open a php (or html) page w/ embedded pano in lightwindow

[a href="http://www.YOURDOMAIN.com/pano.php" class="lightwindow page-options" params="lightwindow_width=600,lightwindow_height=400,lightwindow_loading_animation=false"">LINK[/a>

this will link directly to pano.swf and/or xml file in lightwindow

[a href="http://www.YOURDOMAIN.com/pano.swf?xml_file=http://www.YOURDOMAIN.com/pano.xml" class="lightwindow page-options" params="lightwindow_width=600,lightwindow_height=400,lightwindow_loading_animation=false"">LINK[/a>

url queries work fine w/ either method as well
