Panning Timelapse

Hello, I have been doing a lot of timelapses latelly and I really want to try some panning timelapses. Unfortunatelly I do not have the money to buy a motor drive so I have been trying to do it just using my tripod head. I put a bunch of marks, evenly spaced, on my tripod head to try and keep the movements as consistent as possible, but its still not working. Does anyone have any suggestions on how many frames I should take between each horizontal movement of the camera, how long the interval should be between each shot etc. Im pretty sure that it will work without using a motor drive because all of the movements are while the shutter is closed, Im just not sure how to execute it. Thank you to anyone out there who is willing to give me their secrets,

Re: Panning Timelapse

It's perfectly possible to do without any motors, but you may have trouble making small enough movements.

I've found even with a fisheye you can't afford to move more than a degree between shots, for any longer focal length you will be moving the camera fractions of a degree each time. A geared head or an adapted rotary table would work well, though.
