Bonfire Celebrations in the UK

Lewes Bonfire 2007, a traditional English event coming increasingly under threat from from those obsessed with health and safety issues. This is the first year that the police issued a warning that members of the Bonfire Societies in costume might be arrested for the tradition of "dropping" bangers in the street. Fortunately sense prevailed and the ancient custom was carried out with as much enthusiasm as ever and no arrests, but at events in other towns the practice seems to be discontinued which is very sad. I have been attending Bonfire for over 40 years throughout Sussex and have never seen an injury but due to the huge numbers of people who attend and the move to "organized" ie money making, displays these ancient traditions are under threat.
