Nikon D3 and Sigma 8mm fisheye number of images needed
How many images would be needed to create a 360 degree horizontal QTVR movie with the Nikon D3 full frame body and Sigma 8mm fisheye. I'm currently using the D200 with the Nikon 10.5mm fisheye. I want to start using my D3 for panos when my NN5 pano head arrives. My guess would be three-four images. Would I still need to shoot a separate zenith and nadir image or would the full frame fisheye make those images unnecessary?
Thanks in advance

Thanks Andrew, your information is most helpful. If its the same number of images for the Nikon 10.5mm fisheye as the sigma circular fisheye, then I won't have to buy the sigma lens. How do you remove the lens hood on the Nikon lens?

You've either got to shave it off with a blade (scary) or have a lens engineer remove it for you.

Re: Nikon D3 and Sigma 8mm fisheye number of images needed
Hi - just found the forums here - look like a great source of info.
Just recieved my new NN5 - going to use with my Nikon D3 and 10.5mm lens (without shaving the hood off - just cant bring myself to do it)
Question is ...
Anyone care to telll me what rail settings they are using with this combo (Yes I can do the work and figure them out for myself - just looking to save some time and a starting point to fine tune from - I guess the nodal ninja site will eventually have a setup section for the NN5 as they do the NN3)
thanks

Hi John,
With the D3 and Sigma 8mm you'll need a minimum of 3 x shots. If you incline the lens 15 degs skyward, you'll have enough overlap to cover the zenith. You'll of course need to take an extra shot down to cover the nadir.
But... Over on the REALVIZ forum I've been discussing with someone who has taken just 2 x shots with a Canon 5D and Sigma 8mm f/3.5 (a.k.a. IPIX) for a full 360. There's very little overlap and the lens is degrading at the edges, but it's possible you could do the same with the D3.
I've also tested a D3 with the Nikon 10.5mm and with the hood removed you'll need 3 shots using the same inclined angle.
Don't forget though the upcoming Sigma 10mm f/2.8 as well...
