Superintendent's House, Summerland Ornamental Gardens, Summerland, BC, Canada
The Summerland Ornamental Gardens are a lesser known, but beautiful, attraction in the South Okanagan Valley. Prior to federal government cutbacks, the gardens were maintained by the Government of Canada, but now a volunteer organization has taken over responsibility. Their website is: http://www.summerlandornamentalgardens.org/ The gardens are beautiful and used regularly for wedding photography. The garden also features a xeriscape area that displays native plant material that are adapted to the dry, desert climate of the region. A steam engine travels restored Kettle Valley Railway tracks which intersect with the garden lands, giving tourists and locals the experience of riding in a steam powered train.
The Pacific Agri-Food Research Centre lands, which are adjacent to the gardens are used to develop new varieties of crops and horticultural research (the research centre URL is http://www4.agr.gc.ca/AAFC-AAC/display-afficher.do?id=1180620561099&lang... )
