Mac and Windows compatibility ???????????
I'm facing a hugh problem in compatibility between Mac and Windows
I do have a project of around 50 VR nodes, divided into 13 areas (zones)-which mean 13 different Map-
I managed to create each area as a scene (.mov file) in live stage 4.6 for mac.
these .mov files are linked to each other through a flash menu in each file with
the GoToURL("<name.mov>T<myself>") works flawlessly on Mac but ON WINDOWS i got that:
--WHAT EVER ANY SCENE (.MOV FILE) I START WITH I CAN GO TO ANY OTHER SCENE, BUT THEN A CANT GO ANY WHERE,
I GOT ERROR IN PATH TO THE OTHER SCENES, ALTHOUGH ALL FILES ALLOCATED IN THE SAME FOLDER.
ex.
i started with file A.mov goto B.mov in B i cant go any where (path error)
if i started with B go to A no problem then in A i cant go any where (path error).
Regardless of the full screen issue that works in the start node(the node covers the screen) then next node come on its normal size still in full screen but dont cover full screen (have black area run around).
PLEASE GUIDE ME.
thanks,
Mohamed Mira
re: Mac and Windows compatibility
Hi Mohamed:
NO NEED TO SHOUT! :-)
Regarding Flash: You can also read about it in my blog posts on this site, here.
Some questions:
* What version of Windows?
* Which browser(s)?
* Which version of QuickTime?
* Which version of LSP?
* Do you have an example URL to share?
Make sure you are using LSP 4.6.6, which is the latest version for Mac. You can download it from the Stagedoor site.
Other things -- You may want to pass extra parameters in your URL call, to try and keep things in fullscreen. See some example code below, and also the full list of parameters at Apple's site. (text from Apple's site).
----
Important: If you pass a relative URL in the HREF parameter, it must be relative to the currentlyloadedmovie, not relative to the current web page. If your movies are in a separate folder, specify URLs relative to the movies folder.
----
GoToURL("<MyNewMovie.mov> T<myself> E<autoplay=true loop=true controller=false>")
----
That is, just about any parameter you can put in the Object/Embed code in the Web page, you can pass in your GoToURL() -- it might smooth things over.
Please keep us posted!

re: Mac and Windows compatibility
Hi Waleed,
Thanks for yr tip, but i'm aware of that.
Mr. Patrick,
here we goes, first I was not shooting :), i just emphasize my problem. any way
1- I'm not using any browser, Just Quicktime player, It is a desktop presentation - the final out put will be played from a CD or DVD.
Systems that i have:
Mac PowerBook G4 17" monitor
Mac OS X 10.4.6
QT 7.0.4, LSP 4.6 trail
PC compatible
Win XP Pro 2002 SP2
QT 7.1, LSP 4.5 original
PC compatible
Win XP Pro 2002 SP2
QT 7.1.3 , No LSP just for testing
All my files are allocated in the same folder
I got something new yesterday
in LSP 4 manual there are some hints about the GoToURL Qscript BUT not in LSP 4.5 manual
Any way
by adding back slash GoToURL("\<a.mov>T<myself>")
it works this way on windows plate form:
---go from A.mov to B.mov no problem as before (still losing my full screen)
---and back From B.mov to A.mov NO MORE PATH ERROR, it opens in Explorer browser when it should keep in QT player (dont know why)
Thanks very much for yr cooperation
Mira
re: Mac and Windows compatibility
Hey Mira:
Hmmm... Nice tip on adding the backslash. :-) Interesting, but not surprising, that it's in one manual and not the other. You might try escaping the other "<" ">" elements (that is, add the backslash before them).
Now that I better understand what you're trying to accomplish -- My first thought is that it might be more efficient and LESS BUGGY to use a Movie track ("MIAM", or "Movie in a Movie"), into which you load each successive VR. Some simple settings which you give to the MIAM track itself will also get around the sizing issue.
For example, you have a movie which contains a MIAM track. When the movie opens, it loads a specified QTVR into the MIAM track. Clicking a hotspot in the QTVR tells the main movie to load a different QTVR into the MIAM track (thus replacing the current QTVR). And so on.
As an example, copy the below URL & open it directly in QuickTime -- This movie uses the above idea in a similar fashion, though in this case it's a map with buttons which loads in different movies. Is this similar to what you're trying to accomplish?

re: Mac and Windows compatibility???????
Hi PatricK,
Thanks for sample. still this is not what i'm doin, and i dont have time for trying another approach to accomplish my project. The presentation due next Tus. I'll give u more details later.
So just pare with me
I'll i need now is to solve the linking problem between .mov files in Windows.
I'll i need is the proper syntax for that.
thanx a lot

re: Mac and Windows compatibility
Oof, nothing like working under deadline. :-)
Well, if you can't go the MIAM approach, then probably trying to work with the GoToURL() call is all you have to go on -- See the above post for how to add on parameters to the call.
My thinking, though, is that Windows is having issue with the GoToURL() -- that is, assuming automatically that it should open in a browser window.
--
One other quick thought -- since this will be delivered from DVD, as a single presentation, possibly you can create the movie as a multi-node QTVR?
With a VR Track, you can keep adding QTVR samples to the track; then to go from node to node you just "move" up and down the timeline.

re: Mac and Windows compatibility
Hi,
I have LSP for Windows.
I have a LSP manual for 4 and 4.5 and neither mention GoToURL("T").
My understanding of GoToURL has been the link is going to open up in a browser, unless you use GoToURL(“T”).

re: Mac and Windows compatibility
Hey Kevin:
I haven't checked the manual in a while (!), but the different kinds of linking you can do are mentioned in the QScript reference window, IIRC.
I do think, too, that the default behavior is to hit the browser unless otherwise specified.

re: Mac and Windows compatibility
Just an update to the above, if folks jump into the middle of this thread:
The GoToURL I was referencing was GoToURL("<name.mov>T<myself>")
Re: Flash disabled in your QT Windows
OMG, I climb all over internet until found howto enble flash in QT :)

Flash disabled in your QT Windows
It sounds like you're using the latest QT player on Windows (7.1.3), then the ability for QT to read your FLASH track is disabled by default. You need to manually enable it.
This was done in the latest version QT player (MAC/WIN) back in Sept. '06. You haven't lately upgraded your QT player on your MAC, am I right?
Read about it here:
http://tinyurl.com/tyf5u
You can enable it from your QT player Preferences menu, in the Advanced tab.
Hope this helps,
Waleed
