Mac Stitching software

Hello All!

New member. I have been doing Virtual Tours for about 3 1/2 years using "Real Tour Vision" software

I am now moving to qtvr panos using My G5 Mac and G4 Powerbook. Any thoughts on software...been having a tough time with PT Mac. I just received my 360 Precision Adjuste Rotator...man this thing is Hi Quality.

Anyway..my goal is to Batch stich QTVR Panos quickly and Accurately.

Recommendations on stitch software needed : )

Thanks in advance

Dennis

Re: Mac Stitching software

Hey Dennis:

I've been using Stitcher pretty heavily for several versions, and after an initial hiccup with Stitcher 5.5U I'm very happy with it. Stitcher's batching ability is much stronger now, though it still feels a bit slow on the render-- I tend to let it run overnight with large batches. Nice to wake up to some freshly exported panoramas. :-)

A close second in my opinion is PTGui for Mac. This has some good, fairly intuitive controls but is a bit more hands-on than Stitcher. The developer is extremely responsive, and there's an active group of users in its forum. I haven't batched with it, so can't offer guidance there -- but right now I'm using Stitcher first and PTGui for "problem children".

I'm using a 360P head for the 5D/15mm combo, and both of the applications eat up the images just fine.

Re: Mac Stitching software

I too was a early adopter of Stitcher but I bailed out of it after v4.0, that version broke everything I needed. I use PTMac now and PTGui. PTmac took a while to figure out but once I did that little light bulb went off in my noggin and everything is good. The adjuste head as far as I hear isn't really set up as a batchable head but it is well made. Using the original 360P head batchable is well documented, PTMac has awesome batch stitching software much easier than PTGui but you do have to spend the time to learn it but once you do it's not that difficult and will help out with both PTMac and PTGui since from time to time you still have to do something manually. I would spend the time and learn it since I think the results are worth the trouble and time.

Re: Mac Stitching software

I went ahead an picked up Stitcher Unlimited 5.5, seems a little slow but does a nice job.
Richard..where did you hear the adjuste was not a batchable head ? just curious.

The thing is rock solid..I would agree you would have poor luck if your nodal point was not set properly..this obviously doesnt happen with the Precision.

Thanks for your input ...your work looks great on your website!

Re: Mac Stitching software

I got that from 360P's website, no mention of precision batching among the attributes of the adjuste. Now you can batch it but you have to build a new template every time you move the camera on the arm. The rotation and tilt stop are the same as the Absolut head I believe, pretty similar design. When you start moving the camera around it doesn't return to exactly the same spot so precision is lost. Having said that it still is a nice head, I may buy one of these to replace my Hot Roded Bogen head or build a new one.

Thanks for the kind words.
