Robotic light trails

It's not panoramic, but quite interesting anyway...

Having bought some spare motors for my motorised panohead, I ended up playing around making a little robot with a distance sensor so that it could try and avoid obstacles. It was quite fun watching it run around the room, jerk back from obstacles and spin on the spot until it saw a gap.

Then, from somewhere or other, comes that spark of inspiration - "What would happen if you stuck a light on it and took a long exposure photo?". A long-established technique for studying movement patterns, it can also create some nice images.

You can see more of the results in a little gallery I've put up (that just happens to use Aldo's altered Lightbox script):

Re: Robotic light trails

The ones with the blinking light are the coolest!

Re: Robotic light trails

I'm thinking of getting some red and green 'running lights' powered off the NXT brick as per Philo's instructions. Should be able to get some blinking ones...
