Hello All,
As per Sam’s instructions, I hereby leave a note where the more experienced 360 video professionals could virtually gather.
Perhaps.
November 4, 2015 at 4:02 pm #7006IVRPA would be more than happy to set up a special moderated forum for 360 video professionals or any other group that needs a home, you guys figure out how you want it to work (admissions and vetting etc) and i will make it happen :)

November 8, 2015 at 12:33 am #7025One thing I just found would make this forum even easier to use would be the option of responding via a reply-to email directly from an email client. Not sure how difficult this is to implement though?
November 8, 2015 at 1:31 pm #7028I think the main thing would be to migrate to a modern forum with social features like NodeBB or Discourse. Not sure how much use there is in setting up sub forums until people are using the (single) main 360 video forum, and the main issue is going to be one of registration and ‘enjoyment’ friction (solved by FB login and a modern UX). I especially think the Q&A quora style option of NodeBB is compelling. Questions and answers are so much of what’s needed.
That working demo of NodeBB is still active at 360pros.org, for a couple more days. I can send you Sam an admin login if you want to kick the tires.
November 8, 2015 at 9:58 pm #7030i would love to integrate a more advanced forum as above and i am totally open to doing so, but the main reasons we use bbpress here are
full integration with wordpress user roles and permissions, this is required for integration w our membership system, this is so we can restrict forum access per IVRPA member user roles, and wp/bbp permission system is kinda weak compared to traditional granular forum permissions system like phpbb etc
ease of updates and modifications, this is very important for long term ease of maintenance and security of this volunteer website, also we do NOT want to end up in the same boat as last time, where despite everyone’s hard work and best intentions our old drupal site became unmaintainable after a few years…
any other forum we might install would need to meet those requirements, don’t want to end up with something that becomes a headache for the next lucky IVRPA webmaster ;)
other notes
erik – these plugins seem to handle forum email replies and notifications as you mentioned, i will have a look at these and whatever else might do the job
https://github.com/rmccue/Falcon
alx – fb/social logins are great BUT they can cause dupe login/account issues for folks who use different email here and fb, i had social login on at first but turned it off for that reason, lots of user error…
Q&A format can be done w bbpress, i have seen a few sites set up like that, it is definitely doable
bbpress has its limits but it is very very flexible, most wp plugins work on bbpress posts, there are some bbpress specific plugins listed here, and many other wordpress plugins work fine w bbpress also –

November 15, 2015 at 1:52 pm #7051Hi,
just saw this post.
im about to set up a directory for VR360 related Businesses and People (right now online in Beta). The Idea behind this was simply to have place where me and others are able to quickly find VR People around the world whenever needed. It is not a commercial project. Until recently, I thought that is maybe a good idea to also set up a forum. But i think IVRPA is the much better place for such a forum. It`s way better to have that in just one place. :-)
So just wanted to let you know that i also have linked your site and everyone is warmly invited to drop by http://upnextvr.com and leave another entry.
(You can easily claim your entry on my site and edit it as you wish – just click the claim button)
