IVRPA Website Updates – December 2018

hey everyone

in the coming weeks i will be installing some major (but mostly affecting behind the scenes things) website updates on this ivrpa.org website

WordPress 5 and Gutenberg

first we will be updating the core of website to wordpress 5 and the new Gutenberg editor, this may affect the way some users of this site post panoramas and how site editors post news articles and event pages etc, but this should not affect the front end of the site in any noticeable way other than perhaps a performance boost

everything seems fine in my testing so far, but there may be some unforeseen conflicts with existing backend customizations to this site , so if you notice anything odd please report here

gutenberg editor does not affect our forums, posting here will not be changed

SSL & https://

after that update, we will then be making the long overdue move to SSL https secure login

https will also affect the way all pages on this site are served and displayed, and we may see some “insecure mixed content” etc warnings on some pages, please report any such errors here with a link to any page that seems unhappy so we can get that fixed asap

this should all go fairly smoothly with no hiccups, and i will post again here when it is done

ok, we are now updated to wordpress 5

everything seems to be working properly, gutenberg editor is apparently not yet fully compatible with our custom post types like panoramas and event pages, so it will only affect pages created by site editors, not normal users

next up is SSL

please report anything that seems out of order here

small update – more issues w gutenberg and some other custom code have been discovered, so gutenberg has been disabled site wide for now

hi everybody

sorry for the delay, i myself am still waiting on required cooperation from current ivrpa board of directors to complete this important task, and i have reminded them many times on many channels how critical this is

as soon as current ivrpa directors are ready to accept the responsibilities they have volunteered for and live up to their word, i am more than ready to proceed

i know ssl is very important and long overdue, and i want to finish this sooner rather than later
