A Brief Introduction to Creating VR Experiences for the HTC Vive

HTC and Valve created a virtual reality headset that was released on the 5th of April 2016. This technology broke complete new ground by transforming the vision of virtual reality into an actual reality. Such mayor innovative leaps do not happen that often in a lifespan and so we took the opportunity to take a closer look at this new type of media.

This quickstart will cover some insight into the challenges and differences of the production of virtual reality experiences. Simply said, we will look into what is needed to get media such as 360° video, stereoscopic images and 3D models created via photogrammetry into your own virtual reality application.

Since virtual reality experiences are very sensitive to the human perception it is therefore also necessary to get a good understanding why the framerate, the resolution, antialiasing and other technical aspects are so crucial for a good and comfortable user experience.
